GHPL: Awal Mohammed available for Kotoko, gets shirt No. 49

Defender Awal Mohammed has been given clearance for a second stint with Asante Kotoko in the 2016/17 Ghana Premier League.

The free-agent central defender had been training with the side since February 2 in hope for a deal with the side he left after the 2012/13 season.

Awal Mohammed signed a one-year contract after passing a mandatory medical at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi last week.

Asante Kotoko also received the 28-year-old’s International Transfer Certificate and have completed his registration for the ongoing campaign, making him available for coach Zdravko Logarusic for the side’s next game against Bolga All Stars on Sunday.

“I chose to return and play for only Kotoko because of my love for this club. I’m here to help win back the laurels and we will see what happens next,” he said.

Starrsportsgh.com can confirm that Awal who previously featured for the Black Stars will be donning shirt number 49 in his second spell with the Porcupine Warriors.

Awal, after leaving Kotoko four years ago played for South Africa’s Maritzburg United, Al-Shabab in Saudi Arabia and Moroccan giants, Raja Casablanca. He had agreed a one-year contract with Arsenal Tula at the beginning of the current season in Europe but the failure of his previous Moroccan club to release his transfer documents before deadline day forced the Russian Premier League side to cancel the deal.
