GHPL: Aduana secure impressive comeback victory over Inter Allies

Aduana Stars ignited their Premier League title charge with a 2-1 come-from-behind victory away at Inter Allies Saturday afternoon.

The Fire club put in great effort to hold back pressure from the hosts while creating few good scoring opportunities in attack. They however conceded late on from a dead ball situation.

Midfielder Isaac Twum punished the league leaders with a superb free-kick strike on the stroke of half time at the El-Wak Stadium.

Half-time pep talk appears to have worked for Aduana as coach Yusif Abubakar’s men got into their stride with much energy. Their efforts were soon rewarded.

Captain Godfred Saka, just like in the last game against Hearts of Oak, exerted his influence on the side with another brace of assists.

He led by example as Aduana pegged bag 21 minutes after restart. Saka charged up the right, outwitted his marker before delivering a brilliant cross which was met by a sweeping header from striker Nathaniel Asamoah into the net – 1-1.

Inter Allies were however dealt a blow as their talisman Isaac Twum had to be substitute as a result of an injury, making way for Samuel Bekoe in the 76th minute. Striker Isaac Osae who went quiet on the day also made way for Samuel Konney.

The ‘Eleven Is To One’ created a few more chances running into the final minutes but their efforts at goal were not threatening enough for goalkeeper Stephen Adams in post for Aduana.

Just into additional minutes, Aduana was awarded a free-kick 35 yards out. Saka effected the kick but his effort was deflected for a corner.

Aduana piled more numbers upfront in search for a last minute goal and so it came. Saka again, tailored his kick towards Derrick Sasraku who headed home from near post to hand the league leaders the match winner.

The 2-1 victory is the first for Aduana in four away attempts against Inter Allies since they first met in the 2013/14 season.

Aduana have now stretched their lead at the top to 16 points ahead of seven other match-day six games of the 2016/17 Ghana Premier League.
