Essien joins Persib Bandung in Indonesia

Ghana midfielder Michael Essien has finally completed a move to Indonesian side Persib Bandung on a one-year deal.

The former Chelsea player has had his career ravaged by injuries hence exiting Panathinaikos in 2016 after 12 league appearances. The move to the Liga 1 side was announced by the club on Tuesday and makes him the highest paid Indonesian player on £800, 000 a season’s salary.

Essien who will wear his favorite shirt number ‘5’ at his new club hopes his move will propel the movement of big stars to the Asian country.

“I hope I am prelude to other world players moving to Indonesia.

“Hopefully this is a good beginning for Indonesian football and also for Persib.

“Thank you for bringing me here. I’m excited and want to give my best.”

Essien is noted globally for his exploits at Olympic Lyon (2003-2005) winning the Ligue 1 twice and Chelsea (2005-2014) where he won two league titles, four FA Cups and a Uefa Champions League.

The 34-year-old player also played for AC Milan, Real Madrid and Bastia and has won 58 caps for Ghana, representing at two world cups.
