Grant to lead Ghana to AFCON 2017

Head coach of the senior national, Avram Grant will guide the Black Stars to the 2017 AFCON, vice president of the Ghana Football Association, George Afriyie has strongly hinted.

The former Chelsea trainer has come under intense pressure from the media after his lack-lustre performance with the team and his attitude towards the job, especially going five matches without picking a win.

Ghana’s qualification to Russia 2018 World Cup faces an uphill task following a 2-0 defeat to Egypt after drawing goalless with Uganda at home. This leaves the West African giant on third position, five points adrift of Egypt who have six points.

Amidst wide spread of a possible sack, the FA chief urges soccer loving fans to remain positive.

“I have to be very honest with you. As at now, Ghana FA has not arrived at any conclusion that we should sack Avram Grant,” Afriyie told Nhyira FM.

“The Executive Committee of the Association has met and deliberated about the growing calls from Ghanaians for Grant to be sacked but I can’t reveal the outcome of our meeting now to the media. We will speak at the appropriate time but for now he’s still at post so he will be there when the Afcon tournament starts.

“We understand that our recent performances have been very bad but everyone should be calm and hope for the best because things will change,” he added.

The Black Stars are in group D of the 2017 AFCON alongside with Mali, Egypt and Uganda.
