The 2016 elections in Ghana has seen some upsets for some parliamentary candidates across the country; amongst them was the deputy Sports Minister Vincent Oppong Asamoah.
The Minister from the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) who was very confident ahead of the December 7 polls lost his seat to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Ali Halidu in the Dormaa West constituency in the Brong Ahafo region.
In a certified results released, Halidu polled 8,422 votes to beat Oppong Asamoah who won 8,131 votes.
For the Sports Minister, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye returns to Parliament with 37, 217 as against his cousin Edward Nii Lante Bannerman’s 26,585 in the much fancied Odododiodio race.
In a fiercely contested seat in the Greater Accra Region, Accra Hearts of Oak’s Strategic Committee Chairman Vincent Odotei Sowah defeated long-serving MP Nii Amassah Namoale at La Dadekotopon Constituency.
Namoale had been the Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency for three conservative four-year terms but now the former King Faisal boss will be representing the people of La Dadekotopon.
