AFCON 2017: Black Stars to use St. Thomas Aquinas SHS for non-residential training

Ghana will begin its quest for the elusive fifth Africa Cup of Nation title with a series of non-residential training sessions ahead of the 31st edition of the continental showpiece on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, the country’s Football Association has announced.

Announcing the Black Stars’ pre-tournament program Monday, the country’s Football Association revealed the choice of a training field of a Senior High School located in Accra.

Coach Avram Grant’s provisional squad for the Cup of Nations will use the school facility for five straight days before flying out of Accra for the second phase of their preparations to the Gabon tournament.

”Local training session at the St. Thomas Aquinas Secondary School from 28th December to 1st January, 2017.”

Just like they did for the 2013 Afcon, the Black Stars will use the world class facilities in Abu Dhabi for their final preparations between January 2 and 13.

Ghana could play at least two friendlies while camping in the UAE before leaving for Gabon where they will open their Afcon 2017 campaign against Uganda on January 17, 2017.
