NEW DEAL: Gnagne to leave Hearts after 2016/17 season

Accra Hearts of Oak captain Robin Gnagne has ended uncertainties regarding his future with the Phobians by signing to a new deal Friday.

The 26-year-old Ivorian extended his contract by one more season.

In July 2015, Gnagne signed a one-year deal with an option for another till July 2017 should he fail to land a move away from Ghana by the end of the 2015/16 season.

Talks about the centre-back’s future grew in the last month after he disclosed to close sources of a desire for a fresh challenge including a possible switch to arch-rivals Asante Kotoko.

But the long-serving defender on Friday afternoon ended all speculations by fulling the clause in his last deal.

“We only activated the clause in our last contract with Robin. In that agreement, we had the option of one more season but there was no cost to it so basically what the club could do was to negotiate new terms for that duration,” a club source explained to GHOne TV.

Robin Gnagne’s new deal will now see him at the club till the end of the upcoming 2016/17 season.

Hearts signed Gnagne from the now defunct Red Bull Academy in 2012 and the Ivorian has gone on to establish himself as one of the best players to play in the rainbow colours since his arrival. He has been the captain of the side for three straight seasons.
