GPL: Champions Wa All Stars keen to keep league title

Ghana Premier League champions, Wa All Stars say they intend to defend their 2015/16 league title.

The Northern Blues won the trophy for the first time in the club’s history and also became the first club to hold the record of being the only club from Northern Ghana to ever win a league title and also give them a slot to play in the 2017 CAF Champions league.

The team amassed 51 points and has indicated its intent to defend the title while having a good campaign in Africa as well.

Captain of the side, Hafiz Adams tells Footy-Ghana.com the team is set for the new season.

“We [Wa All Stars] need to maintain the performance of last season because looking at what happened, all eyes will be on us since nobody will want what happened to their teams to happen to them again in the league.

“We will have to work hard to tell everyone that we are ready to defend the title and we will do our very best to defend the title”.

He added: “Everybody is okay and they are all focused on the new season coming up – Africa inclusive. As at now, we are preparing for both competitions and it’s going to be an important task for us”.

The team led by Coach Enos Adepa will prepare for the start of the 2016/17 campaign with the GHALCA G6 tournament.

The open the competition with a tight fixture against FA Cup Champions Bechem United at the Sunyani Coronation Park this weekend.

The 2016/17 Ghana Premier League is scheduled for a December 18 start.
