2018 WCQ: Accam handed late invite for Egypt clash

Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire have revealed David Accam has been handed a call-up to the Black Stars of Ghana for the World Cup qualifier against Egypt.

The forward was omitted from Avram Grant’s 23-man squad ahead of Sunday’s crunch encounter at the Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria.

The Stars have already began camping in Dubai and expect the arrival of Accam before departure to Egypt.

Accam, 26, was named the most valuable player of the season for Chicago Fire appeared 24 times for his club scoring nine times above any other team mates.

He made his debut appearance for Ghana in 2014 during the 2015 Africa Nations Cup qualifier.

Ghana are eager to secure their first win in two games of the Russia 2018 qualifiers after drawing 0-0 against Uganda in October at the Tamale Sports Stadium. A victory will propel the Black Stars to the summit of Group E log ahead of Egypt who earned a 2-1 victory over Congo in the first group qualifier.

Ghana are seeking a fourth consecutive FIFA World Cup appearance.
