Bechem United has confirmed receiving a GHC 50,000 donation from the government for the renovation of the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park.
CEO of the Bechem club, Nana Kwasi Darlington has told footy-ghana.com the donation was made by the Chief of Staff Julius Debrah on Thursday.
It will be recalled that President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama earlier this month promised to construct an astro – turf for Bechem United to use for their 2017 CAF Confederation campaign.
The minister of the Brong Ahafo Region, Hon. Eric Opoku at a campaign tour mentioned the President has fulfilled the promise adding the money has been given to the Chiefs of the area.
“Today we are given the money to the chiefs so they give it to the team and right from today we plead with you to use the money well and work steadily so the park will be nice by January ending,” he said.
The CEO of the club believes it will go a long way to help the team in the quest to excel in Africa next season.
“Yes it’s true, the chief of staff was here to present 500 million old cedis to us for the Bechem Project Monday and it’s a booster for our African dream to come through. This is surely to tell us that we can make it, this means a lot to the people of Bechem and Bechem United as a whole and we are grateful,” he said.
Nana Kwasi Darlington explained that the money will be used for uplifting the stadium.
“Some of the stands in the stadium has not been completed so this will be used to complete the uncompleted stands and then we will start the construction of the astro – turf,” he said.
Bechem United will be participating for the first time in the 2017 CAF Confederation Cup by virtue of winning the 2016 MTN FA Cup.
