I will be the cheer leader for the Black Stars against Uganda – Nii Lantey Vanderpuye

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye has urged Ghanaians to rally behind the Black Stars when they face Uganda in the World Cup qualifiers.

The senior national team will on Friday at the Tamale Sports Stadium take on the Cranes of Uganda in the opening game of Group D for a slot in the 2018 World Cup to be staged in Russia.

The minister who in the past had been seen as not supporting the team because of his usual criticisms of the financial burdens on the country’s economy any time they play said he will be leading the way in supporting the team.

“I’m going to take the lead to Tamale, I’m going to go round to the radio and television stations and do a lot of work with the players themselves, visit the Dakpeman, the Mosques to sensitize the Tamale Public so that we break the attendance myth that is affecting the national team so we can have maximum attendance for this game against Ugand.”

The minister in an interview with Joy Sports has opted to be the cheer leader in the game on Friday: “I want us to start this match against Uganda with a good victory. I’m very optimistic, if we win this match, it will be a great impetus for the rest of the matches. I will be there to be the cheer leader in this match.”

Kick off of the game is at 3:30pm local time.

Egypt and Congo are the other opponents in Group D.
