Former deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, Joe Aggrey says calls for Kwesi Nyantakyi to step down from his role as Ghana FA president is hasty.
According to the retired journalist who served under the erstwhile Kufour Administration, the new FIFA executive council member should be allowed to make a decision on whether or not he can combine the two portfolios.
Nyantakyi was elected as one of Africa’s two representatives on the FIFA Executive Council in Cairo last Thursday.
There have been varied opinions on how well the Ghana FA boss would effectively execute his many roles with a former General Secretary of the Association, Worlanyo Agra urging him to relinquish his position as President of the country’s football governing body.
However, Joe Aggrey who once served as President of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) from 1985 to 2001 says Nyantakyi should be allowed to make such decision.
“I think people are being too hasty, they should wait. After the elections, I think Kwesi will advice himself on what to do next.”
“But why do people want to get the man out of Ghana football?,” he queried.
“I think it’s not fair,” Joe Aggrey.
Meanwhile, checks reveal most of other FIFA Council members still lead their various FAs with examples being Constant Omari of DR Congo, Tengku Abdullah of Malaysia, David Gill of England, Angel Maria Villa Llona amongst others.
