The Premier League Board has unveiled a glittering trophy for the Ghana FA’s flagship club competition, the Ghana Premier League.

At an unveiling ceremony held at the conference room of the Ghana FA secretariat Thursday, the PLB said it is hopeful the new trophy which will be presented to the champion club of the league at the end of every season, would inspire clubs to remain competitive as the season enters into homestretch.

The new trophy is an Italian creation made of high quality silver and 24 carat gold. It has a precious wood base with a height of 67cm and weight of 40cm. the glittering trophy is elegantly designed to fit the status of the competition.

A member of the Ghana FA Executive Committee, Nana Banyin Eyison who represented the President of the country’s football governing body, explained the rationale behind acquiring the new trophy.

“The old trophy which was last won by AshGold was acquired for the Premier League by the immediate past headline sponsors, First Capital Plus Bank (now Capital Bank),” he said.

“Having customized with their names and on the trophy, it would not be appropriate to continue using the trophy hence the GFA’s decision to have a swift replacement.

“The Ghana Football Association places so much value on this competition and together with all our stakeholders, we want to turn this trophy as the permanent premier league trophy…,” he added.
