Andre Ayew suffers injury on West Ham debut

Ghana forward Andre Ayew’s debut for new club West Ham United was shortlived by injury in their 2016/17 Premier League opening game against Chelsea.

The 26-year-old who switched from Swansea for a club record fee last week lasted just 33 minutes as he limped off in the season opener Monday night.

Ayew hobbled off the pitch after suffering an injury to his right leg in the game at the Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea won the encounter 2-1 with a Diego Costa goal at the death of the match.

Eden Hazard gave Chelsea the lead with a penalty but the Blues’ lead was cancelled by defender James Collins’ equalizer. Costa however sealed the winner with an 89th minute strike.

Andre Ayew joined the Hammers for a £20.5m fee.
