Kotoko beat Hearts to win 2016 President’s Cup

Kumasi Asante Kotoko emerged winners the 2016 GHALCA President’s Cup that took place at the Accra Sports Stadium Friday afternoon.

Kotoko beat sworn rivals Accra Hearts of Oak 3-2 on penalty shootouts after a scoreless battle in 90 minutes of the game used to commemorate Ghana’s Republic day.

This was the third time the two teams were meeting in the President’s Cup (2005 and 2015) and Kotoko ensured they revenged the Phobians as the former lost out on the cup last year.

The game travelled to a penalty shoot outs after the ninety minutes ended.

Hearts of Oak skipper Robin Gagne and Ollenu Ashittey converted their spot kicks but his other team mates Ibrahim Musah, Paul Acquah and Patrick Razak missed on their turns.

On the part of Kotoko Evans Quao and Emmanuel Osei scored on their chances but both Eric Donkor and Samuel Kyere missed their chances on the penalty kicks.

Captain Amos Frimpong ensured his side won on the day after he scored his penalty kick making it 3-2 on that day for the Porcupine Warriors.
