Caf Confederation Cup: Abass double gives Medeama first win

Medeama recorded their first victory of the 2016 Caf Confederation Cup group stage with a 3-1 win over Tanzania’s Young Africans at the Sekondi-Essipong Sports Stadium on Tuesday.

The match was the Yellow and Mauves’ fourth game of the ‘money zone’.

Daniel Amoah put the home side in front seven minutes into the first half.

Two minutes later, Medeama were awarded a penalty but midfield dynamo Malik Akowuah had his kick saved by goalkeeper Deogratias Munishi.

Medeama kept on the pressure, and were accordingly rewarded when Abass Mohammed scored to consolidate their lead.

Saimon Thankgod, however, reduced the deficit for the visitors from the spot minutes later, after Akowuah had fouled his marker in the box.

Eight minutes to the break, Abass registered his second of the afternoon, scoring coach Prince Owusu’s charges’ third goal from a header.

No goals were recorded in the second half as Medeama held on to claim maximum points for the first time.

The Ghanaians could move to second position on the group table should TP Mazembe beat MO Bejaia by more than two goals in their clash on Wednesday.
