SEALED: Hearts, Kotoko sign deal for President’s Cup 2016 clash

Ghana’s biggest rivals Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko officially signed an agreement to face each other in commemoration of this year’s Republic Day, Tuesday afternoon.

July 1 is the day Ghana celebrates the attainment of its Republican status and in football circles, is specially marked with a ceremonial match organized by the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) in honour of the sitting President.

Last year, the two clubs clashed at the Accra Stadium in a game which ended in a stalemate after regulation time but it was the Phobians who snatch the coveted trophy at stake after a penalty shootout win.

The sworn rivals, represented by top brass Samuel Opoku Nti and Vincent Sowah Odotei for Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak respectively, signed to the dotted lines at the Accra Sports Stadium-based GHALCA Secretariat following successful negotiations with new GHALCA Chairman Kudjoe Fianoo and his executives.

The 2016 edition of the President’s Cup which marks Ghana’s 56th Republican status will again be honoured at the usual Accra Sports Stadium venue on Friday, July 1, 2016.
