MTN FA Cup: Rockets shock All Stars to book semis place

An early goal from Benson Akosah was enough to see Division One side Wa Rockets progress to the semi finals of the 2016 MTN FA Cup competition at the expense of big boys Wa All Stars on Saturday.

All Stars, who were hosting the Wa derby at the Malik Jabir Park, were handed a shocker in the 16th minute as Akosah came up with the opening goal. The lead wasn’t enough for the Rockets as they gave an excellent display of showmanship to push the Northern Blues back to their half and defended from there.

On the stroke of half time, Kwame Adepa was forced to bring on Moses Nyarko for Issahaku Konda as he picked an injury. There were no goals recorded afterwards as Rocket held onto their slim lead to end the first half.

All Stars came into the second half with a different mindset and fairly balanced the game, which saw them push much forward this time around. The lower tier side held firmly onto their lead without losing sight of their markers.

The Premier league leaders launched a series of attacks at the Rocket defence line but they were all foiled as they defended with numbers at the back. A 90th minute attack from the Blues was equally dealt with by the Rockets defenders. They held on to their lead till final whistle.

Rockets will now face either Asante Kotoko or Bechem United in the semi finals.

In the other quarterfinals game, Liberty Professionals defeated Elmina Sharks 3-0 courtesy a Felix Addo brace and the final effort of Latif Blessing at the Carl Reindolf Park.
