The President of the Mauritius Football Association, Sohba Mohammad Ally Samir is positive his nation will be able to pull a surprise against Ghana on Sunday.
Club M will host their counterparts, the Black Stars at the Stade Anjalay in a 2017 Africa Nations Cup qualifier.
The FA chief of Mauritius expressed his enthusiasm ahead of the fixture declaring that the Black Stars will have a daunting task to complete when the two sides meet.
“Ghana is one of the best football countries in Africa and boast of quality players but we will teach them that football in recent times has no minnows. Anybody can become a winner so they should expect a bitter lesson,” Ally Samir stated when speaking to Otec FM in Kumasi.
Mr. Sohba Mohammad Ally Samir also revealed the Mauritius players are motivated by spirit of patriotism and the quest to satisfy the supporters and citizens than for personal gains when they represent the national colours.
“Our players are not greedy so they don’t take money before representing the country, [they] rather [play] with pride. They play to make the supporters proud and loud.
“Individuals donate to the team whenever they play to their satisfaction and sometimes we give them between $200 and $500 if they win a game. I’m told Black Stars’ players are taking $10,000 but it’s not surprising because the Ghana FA has enough money to spend,” he said.
Mauritius were thrashed 7-1 in the first round fixture at the Accra Sports Stadium in June last year. Ghana are at the summit of Group H with 10 points. Mauritius and Rwanda are next on the table with six points apiece. A Ghana victory seals qualification for the tourney in Gabon.
The game will be played at 11:00 am Ghana time on Sunday.
