GPL: Michael Osei hails committed Ahmed Adams

Interim Asante Kotoko Coach, Michael Osei has extolled Ahmed Adams decision to choose club duty over national assignment.

The defender who was part of the home-based Black Stars travelling to Japan on Saturday for an international friendly accepted to return to the club who have limited options in defence going into the Ghana Premier League match against Dwarfs.

Coach Michael Osei has commended the decision of the stalwart defender to join the Porcupines and has exhibited great love for Kotoko though he could have opted to travel with the Stars.

Speaking at a press conference Friday evening after the team’s final training session, the coach said this will boost his chances of amassing maximum points from the Dwarfs game.

“I applaud Adams for his commitment deserves commendation. He wanted to stay at the national team’s camp and so did we but we needed him to return to us. It was a difficult situation as we have a number of player injuries and suspensions in our central defensive setup.

“Evans Quao, Edwin Tuffuor Frimpong are suspended and Osei Agyemang is still in the treatment room. This leaves us with only Ohene Brenya so we prayed Coach Maxwell Konadu to release Adams and he agreed. Adams also accepted to return and help the club though he loses the national trip to Japan,” Michael Osei said.

“It wasn’t easy for him as he was down initially but myself, Maxwell Konadu and our General Manager Opoku Nti spoke to him and he accepted to withdraw from the national team. We will do well to also give him the incentives he would have gained at the national camp to motivate him to put up his best for the club,” he added.

The coach also expressed appreciation to the local Black Stars coach, Maxwell Konadu for releasing the player to Kotoko.

“We have to also thank Maxwell too. He willingly listened to our petition and granted Adams’ release though he had already decided on his 18-man squad which Adams was part of. His plans have been distorted as he will travel with 17 players now to Japan. We are very glad,” he said.

Kotoko welcome Dwarfs to the Baba Yara Stadium on match day 11 of the ongoing 2015/16 Ghana Premier League.
