Sunyani Coronation Park faces closure over lack of toilet facilities

Sports Minister Nii Lante Vanderpuije has issued a one-month ultimatum to administrators of the Sunyani Coronation Park to fix their places of convenience or have the place closed.

The minister gave this directive during his tour at the facility and charged the Municipal Assembly and the Regional FA Director to ensure fans gets the opportunity to use the facility when they watch matches.

“My most uncomfortable news is the fact that the Sunyani Coronation Park as it is with its regular football activities hasn’t got a basic place for urinal and also for toilet,” the Odododiodio legislator lamented.

“I have instructed the director general to ensure that within the shortest possible time; I have given them a month. They should take steps and build for the people who throng the stadium every week to watch BA United and Bofoakwa have a place of convenience so that if anybody had a problem, that person can run to the place”

According to the Minister, the Municipal Assembly was ready to support the project saying:

“We are happy to note that the Municipal Assembly is ready to cooperate, coordinate and to support the National Sports Authority in order to bring the facility at the Sunyani Coronation Park even as it is today to the best level that will create comfort for people who will go there”

“I am by let me say instinct able to say that let’s close the stadium for the meantime until that provision is made but from the plea of the Municipal Chief Executive and the Regional FA, I am reluctant to do that but if in a month’s time there has not been any provision of a place of convenience for people who come to the stadium to watch matches, I will not hesitate to take that action because as a Minister, I will not sit down and allow somebody to accuse me of reneging on my responsibility of making sure the facility is up to the standard to be used for any sporting engagements.”

The Minister is expected to be at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium for a similar tour in the course of the week.
