Ghana midfielder Rabiu Mohammed is set to be confined to the sidelines for a maximum of six months after damaging the cruciate ligament in his right knee.
The Russia-based anchor man suffered the injury during Kuban Krasnodar’s 1-0 home defeat to Rostov in the league last Sunday.
Rabiu who has featured in 22 games this term for Krasnodar’s season effectively ends as initial tests reveal the 26-year-old had a gap between the interior cruciate ligaments in the knee and damaged the internal meniscus.
“I can confirm the worst fears. Rabiu was diagnosed with cruciate ligament rupture. The midfielder will have an operation and he will take 4-6 months to recover depending on the circumstances,” Kuban Krasnodar head coach Tashuev said.
“Rabiu will soon go to Germany for a more detailed examination, but the fact is that the season is over for the player.”
Due to the injury, Rabiu, who was recently visited by Black Stars coach Avram Grant, will miss Ghana’s two remaining matches in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Mauritius and Rwanda slated for June and September respectively.
