GPL Wrap: All Stars extend lead; Inter Allies, Kotoko get morale-boosting wins
Wa All Stars extended their lead at the top of the Ghana Premier League table as close chasers dropped points on match day 7 of the GPL.
Midfielder Atta Kofi Yeboah’s thunderous strike 10 minutes into second half ensured that All Stars defeated Ebusua Dwarfs 1-0 to maintain their unbeaten run.
Hearts of Oak tamed Techiman City at ‘The Den’ – the Ohene Ameyaw Park, denying their hosts victory at home for the first time this season in a barren stalemate.
The draw keeps the Phobians at second place but now tie on points, 14, with giant killers Dreams FC.
Dreams, led by former AshGold player C.K Akunnor travelled to shock the champions with a 1-0 score at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi on Sunday. Midfielder Emmanuel Hayford’s 43rd minute free-kick strike separated both sides.
Struggling Asante Kotoko were able to secure a come-from-behind win over Liberty Professionals in Kumasi. Youngster Latif Ata Blessing struck as early as theb2nd minute for tye visitors but goals from Ahmed Adams, Dauda Mohammed and Amos Frimpong handed the porcupine warriors a 3-1 victory on Sunday.
Academy boys WAFA SC also dropped points for the first time at home as a Prince Antwi equalizer frustrated the coach John Killa side to a 1-1 draw at Sogakope. Winger Samuel Tetteh had given WAFA the lead with his fifth goal of the season via the spot.
Inter Allies emerged big winners on Sunday as they thumped Bechem United 4-0 at the Tema Stadium. Isaac Twum handed the hosts a 1-0 half time lead before Prince Baffoe, Gockel Ahortor and Ropapa Mensah completed the mauling.
A dramatic Bono derby saw hosts Berekum Chelsea edge rivals Aduana Stars 1-0 at the Golden City Park. Striker Asiwome Fumador climbed from the bench to score with his first touch of the ball. Few minutes after the goal, Aduana goalkeeper Celestine Damptey who had replaced Stephen Adams due to injury was also forced out of the game with the same predicament. Coach Cioaba Aristica who was yet to exhaust his substitution had to bring on defender Wahab Adams as a goalkeeper for the final 10 minutes of the game.
The final match day 7 game between Sekondi Hasaacas and Medeama SC has been shifted to Thursday April 14 due to the latter’s CAF Confederation Cup assignment during the weekend.
