DRAMA: ‘Frozen’ Duncan shows up at Kotoko training without players

“I’m here as usual to train my players. I don’t see anyone and I don’t know why that is,” defiant Asante Kotoko coach David Duncan said to after reporting to duty at the club’s Adako-Jachie training grounds Tuesday morning.

Duncan’s insistence he’s still in charge of the Porcupine Warriors took a dramatic turn on Tuesday morning as he showed up to training without the players and backroom staff.

According to the team’s training program handed out to the players on Sunday, training was scheduled for 8am this morning at the Adako Jachie training ground, but the players did not show up after team manager Adu Poku reportedly called to move training to the Baba Yara stadium.

Consequently, Duncan was left to spend the entire training period at the venue without his players to train. He went about his normal duties, laying cones and revising training notes.

Not surprisingly, none of his technical team members was with him as his assistant Michael Osei and team manager Adu Poku handled the team’s training at the Baba Yara stadium, at the same time Duncan was waiting at Adako Jachie.

Speaking exclusively to footy-ghana, Duncan revealed he had no idea why the players didn’t show up.

“I’m here as usual to train my players. I don’t see anyone and I don’t know why that is.

“But I’m just doing my job and following the team’s program,” Duncan said.

The former Hearts of Oak trainer was asked by the Opoku Nti-led management to step aside “until further notice and with immediate effect” following an unprecedented string of poor results chalked by the club so far this season.

Duncan has since rejected the “step aside” order saying it is not part of the provisions in his two-year deal with the porcupine warriors.

Kotoko have managed only 5 points from 6 games and lie bottom of the 16-team 2015/16 Ghana Premier League table.
