USED TO IT: Duncan downplays pressure claims

Coach of Asante Kotoko, David Duncan has refuted claims that he is under pressure to perform after his side got defeated in match day 1 of the 2015/16 Ghana Premier League season against WAFA at Sogakope.

The Kumasi-based side appear to be under pressure as a result of the lofty start to the season by arch rivals Hearts of Oak who have won all two of their games – against New Edubiase and Medeama SC.

Briefing the press on Friday, Duncan said he is used to the pressure that comes with the job.

“In football, when we talk about pressure, you have got to be specific but I can conjecture what people mean by pressure in the sense that, I can hazard a few words as it were to describe their concerns; are they talking about being anxious, are they talking about we being edgy or nervy?,” he stated ahead of their league game with Medeama which also happens to be the first league to be played at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Duncan continued: “And under the circumstances that other clubs have won the matches but I have always maintained even off season when there’s not supposed to be any competition, a coach will definitely be under pressure because at every turn of the profession, there’s some work to be done. ”

“If it’s the off season, you are talking about recruitment; if it’s in the season, you’re talking about upcoming game so as a coach, you leave your daily lives under it so we are used to it”, the former Hearts of Oak Coach mentioned.

Kotoko having lost on match day one and having their match day two fixture at home to Ashgold rescheduled because the Miners were out of the country for a CAF Champions League assignment, will be hoping to win against Medeama who on the other hand have also lost all their two matches.
