A heavy win for WAFA SC; Dreams FC living the dream; resolute Hearts of Oak snatch important point; All Stars, Kotoko and champions AshantiGold all held on match day 3 of the 2015/16 Ghana Premier League.
Fifteen goals; 5 drawn games and three wins highlights the trend of results recorded from the 8 league centres in a weekend which saw all the Top 3 teams drop two points in their respective matches.
WAFA SC were on rampage at home to Sekondi Hasaacas. Charles Boateng gave the Academy boys a first half lead before Gideon Waja doubled things up for the hosts. Winger Samuel Tetteh went on to score the season’s first hat-trick and shot himself up on the scorers’ chart with four league goals as Hasaacas succumbed to a 0-5 beating at the Sogakope Stadium on Sunday.
Dreams FC continued their impressive start to top-flight football with a 2-2 drawn game away to Inter Allies at the Tema Stadium. The visitors took the lead twice but were always pegged back. Striker Lawson Bekui scored a brace but his goals were cancelled out by Evans Mensah and Prince Baffoe. Black Stars coach Avram Grant witnessed the match.
Liberty Professionals travelled to hold leaders Wa All Stars to a barren stalemate while in-form Hearts of Oak trekked to do same to Ebusua Dwarfs at the Robert Mensah Stadium in Cape Coast.
Medeama secured a deserved point – their first of the season after forcing Kotoko to a 2-2 draw at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday. Bennett Ofori capitalized on a miscommunication between Medeama defenders and goalkeeper Michael Sai to score the opening goal but Malik Akowuah equalized through a superb free-kick effort. Michael Yeboah restored the lead with a deflected goal but the fighting Medeama side will not budge. Bismark Oppong found the back of the net with a sensational strike to bring the scores at 2-2 in Kumasi.
A Stephen Manu first half header ensured that Techiman City compounded the early season woes of Aduana Stars. The lanky striker initially missed an opportunity to give the hosts a lead as he saw his penalty saved hitting the crossbar. Minutes later, Manu with the benefit of his height, outjumped his marker to head home a cross which ended up being the only goal of the regional derby at the Nana Ameyaw Park.
Ex-Kotoko midfielder Aminu Mohammed solitary strike ensured Bechem United secure all three points at home against New Edubiase United while on Saturday, AshantiGold were held to a goalless game in Obuasi.
