GPL: AshGold hold Kotoko in outstanding fixture [Photos]

The match day two outstanding league game between Asante Kotoko and Ashanti Gold was this afternoon cleared at the Baba Yara Stadium.

The current league champions frustrated the Porcupine Warriors from the start to the end of the game, forcing them to dance to their tune in the encounter which produced no goal.

It was cagey at the early stages of the game but Ashgold had a three on two situation from a counter break but was blasted away by Fredrick Quayeson on the 7th minute mark.

The pace of the game picked from there with chances falling on the way of Ashgold despite Kotoko dictating pace. Two minutes afterwards, Nuhu Fueini had all the opportunity in the world to draw first blood but wasted much time for the ball to be cleared.

Asante Kotoko was denied a golden opportunity for a first goal as striker Dauda Mohammed’s shot rattled the crossbar.

Another pile drive from outside the box by Eric Donkor was neatly saved by Robert Dabuo on the 36th minute.

Kotoko by far dominated the first half but failed to convert their chances that came their way with Ashgold being resolute at the back.

The second part of the game was rather much of a tactical display from Bashiru Hayford, resulting to delays and all kinds of frustrations which left the supporters of the home side in an ire mood and really got them upset.

Kotoko continued from where they left off in the first half but again lacked the cutting edge and composure in front of goal.

Former Great Olympics striker, Kwame Boateng, who is returning from injury, replaced Dauda Mohammed on the 76th minute but look lethargic for the remainder of the game.

Ashgold sat back for a large part of the game with their goalkeeper going down on the slightest touch in the box.

Their tactics worked to perfection with the game ending goalless.

This will leave Kotoko winless in three games, amassing two points’ whiles Ashgold have five points from the same number of games played.

The Porcupines will play as guests to Berekum Chelsea whiles Ashgold will also travel to play Hasaacas in Sekondi on match day four.
