Telecommunication network, Vodafone Ghana has denied media reports that the company is in talks with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to become the headline sponsor of the Premier League.
The reaction comes after some media outlets reported that Vodafone are in talks with the GFA to take over as headline sponsors after Capital Bank [previously First Capital Plus Bak] suspended their deal with the country’s football regulation body.
The new season started last weekend without a headline sponsor with Bekwai-based New Edubiase openly threatening to pull out if a new league sponsor is not found after match day three.
The Corporate Affairs Manager of Vodafone Ebenezer Amankwah in an interview with Accra based Class FM said:
“As far as we concerned here in Ghana there has not been any decision or whatsoever to get involved in the Ghana Premier League as we speak.
“I think at best the stories you have seen around are unfounded, we have not taken such decision and if we had, we would have communicated it to the public a long time ago, but as we speak they’ve been nothing in that respect,” he added.
Meanwhile the Ghana FA has assured stakeholders the FA is still in talks with corporate bodies in their bid to find a sponsor for the 2015/16 Ghana Premier League.
