Jonathan Mensah seals Anzhi move [Photos]

Ghana international defender Jonathan Mensah has completed a move to play for Anzhi Makachkala in Russia.

The deal will see the Black Stars defender last two and a half years at the club, ending June 30, 2018.

Mensah had been linked to join countryman at English Premiership side, Swansea in a summer move but caretaker coach of the Russian outfit, Ruslan Agalarov managed to secure the defender’s signature from Evian Thonon Gaillard in the French Ligue 2.

The former Udinese and Granada defender officially completed a medical on Tuesday and will join his new club as they train for the Russian Premier League in Spain.

Mensah joins Anzhi for a cut price €150,000, with a 20% sell on fee going to Evian TG if and when Mensah is sold by Anzhi. He adds up to a growing number of Ghanaian players in the Russian League which has the likes of former Arsenal player Emmanuel Frimpong and Rabiu Mohammed.

Mensah made only five appearances for Evian in the French Ligue 2 and is expected to ease the defensive woes of Anzhi as they battle for League survival.
