Duncan rues missed chances after WAFA defeat

Coach David Duncan was left ruing Asante Kotoko’s lack of cutting edge in front of goal after Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to WAFA SC in the 2015/16 Ghana Premier League.

The Porcupines were high-flying in pre-season without losing a single match and won four trophies in the process; SWAG Cup, 80th Anniversary Challenge Cup, First Trust G6 and Nana Kusi Oboadum Challenge Cup against Bechem United. This has seen them earn the favourite tag for the league.

But the 23-time league winners succumbed to a highly spirited WAFA side, who were but excellent on the day. Goals from Charles Boateng and Samuel Tetteh in each half did enough damage to the porcupine warriors.

Duncan, speaking to the press after the game indicated that if they had taken their chances, the outcome of the results would have been different.

“I think they took their chances well. I mean, that is the only difference between them and the goals they scored.”

“If we had also taken our chances that went away, half, quarter, in some cases full chances, maybe the scores would have been different but in football you never talk about these. Congratulate to WAFA for the win,” Duncan told SuperSport TV.

In a much tougher opponent, Asante Kotoko will play at their favourite Baba Yara Stadium against defending league champions Ashanti Gold on Match Day 2.
