Akunnor eyes future Black Stars job

Former Ghana Captain, C.K Akunnor wants to coach the Black Stars in the near future.

Akunnor, who played 41 times for the senior national team between 1991 and 2001, is now in charge of Dreams FC, a newly-promoted team in the Ghana Premier League.

Kwesi Appiah is one of the few former Black Stars players to have coached the four-time African Champions in recent times and C.K Akunnor wants to follow in the footsteps of his senior colleague.

“I have dreams of coaching the Black Stars one day but I know it’s a long shot. But I’m not shying away from it. Whatever it will take for me to reach that dream, I will keep working hard and educating myself until I’m ready for the challenge,” Akunnor told Kumasi-based Ultimate FM.

Akunnor, who has previously coached Sekondi Eleven Wise and Accra Hearts of Oak, led his Dreams FC to victory against Ebusua Dwarfs in their first ever premier league game. It’s a result that thrilled the former Wolfsburg man.

“I was very happy with the result. We played very well throughout the game and deserved the win, and hopefully that will continue in Dawu against Bechem United,” Akunnor said.

Dreams will host Bechem United at the Dawu Park in their second premier league game on Sunday.
