EXCLUSIVE: Kotoko accept to play Ittihad Tripoli in friendlies

Asante Kotoko have accepted an offer to travel to engage in international friendlies with Libyan side Al-Ittihad Tripoli, footy-Ghana.com can reveal.

The porcupine warriors, as part of their pre-season preparations, have accepted a lucrative proposal to travel to Tripoli and will be the second Ghanaian side in recent weeks to travel to play a friendly in the North African country. Rivals Hearts of Oak were recently handed a 5-0 trashing by Al Hilal over two games.

Footy-Ghana.com can reveal that Kotoko are scheduled to play Libyan giants Al-Ittihad on Wednesday, January 13 with the same fixture repeated two days later at the 80,000 capacity Tripoli Stadium.

Asante Kotoko intend to raise two teams from their 30-man first team squad with few additions from the junior team in order to also compete in the First Trust Ghalca Six Invitational Tournament slated for the Essipon Stadium later this week.

Head coach David Duncan will lead the team that will leave Accra for Libya on Saturday while assistant Michael Osei handles the squad that will be left to challenge for the Ghalca Six trophy.
