CHAN 2016: Local Black Stars depart for Ivory Coast; Asmah, Deo dropped

Coach Maxwell Konadu has named an 18-man squad for Friday’s Chan 2016 final qualifying return clash at Ivory Coast.

The Local Black Stars have a task of protecting their 2-1 first leg advantage at the Stade Robert Champroux in Abidjan in order to secure a ticket to next year’s competition which will be hosted by Rwanda.

Team captain and experienced goalkeeper Fatau Dauda leads a list of six players who failed to make the short trip to neighbouring Ivory Coast on Wednesday.

Others include Isaac Twum, Robert Dabuo, Isaac Amoah, Ahmed Adams as well as left-back Patrick Asmah and Inter Allies forward Sheriff Deo Mohammed who both started in the first leg match in Kumasi.

Asante Kotoko captain Amos Frimpong and Medeama’s Malik Akowuah who failed to make the squad for the first leg have worked their way into the team and look poised for a starting role, footy-Ghana understands.

Maxwell Konadu’s 18-man list is stocked with two goalkeepers, eight defenders, six midfielders and two forwards signalling a defensive approach likely to be adopted by the Local Black Stars on Friday.

The Ghana-Ivory Coast encounter is set for 2.30pm GMT kick-off.
