Head Coach for Bechem United, Manuel Zachariah, has chided match officials in their MTN FA Cup game against Kotoko for what he says was a bad officiating.
The visitors secured a 3-2 penalty shootout win over Asante Kotoko in the quarterfinals of the 2016 MTN FA Cup at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday.
But officiating did not enthuse Coach Zachariah who expressed disappointment at a post-match presser.
“I respect referees and I don’t want to talk about referees but today I was playing not against 11 players but 15 people,” he said.
Bechem United got an early goal from Yaw Arnol on the 7th minute and an equalizer came from Bennett Ofori ten minutes into second half.
Dauda Mohammed had the opportunity of putting his side ahead when he got a penalty in the late minutes of the game but failed to convert.
Kotoko who in this competition, have had to qualify for some of the stages via penalty shootouts (against Storm Academy and AK Shion), once again played penalties against Bechem United after extra time.
It was however the first for Bechem United having won 3-0 against Paga Stars, 5-0 against Sunyani Liberty 5-0 and 1-0 against RTU to make the quarterfinals.
Captain Amos Frimpong, Kojo Poku and Dauda Mohammed all missed their kicks with Evans Quao and Emmanuel Osei on target, on the other hand Alfred Nelson and Aminu Mohammed failed to covert as Abednego Tetteh, Issah Adamu and Yaw Arnol got the needed win for Bechem United.
This is Bechem United’s first ever FA Cup semifinal appearance while Kotoko were aiming at a third consecutive berth.
Bechem will come up against division one side Wa Rockets in the semifinals of the competition.
