African sides Al Hilal and TP Mazembe appear set to lock horns in the transfer window to try and secure the signature of Ghana league top scorer Kofi Owusu.
The diminutive forward hit 19 goals in 25 league games in the 2014/15 season for Berekum Chelsea and has been widely tipped for a move away from the club for greener pastures before the new season begins.
League Champions AshantiGold had all but secured an agreement in principle to land the 24-year-old on loan from Chelsea before newly crowned African club champions, TP Mazembe expressed interest in signing him.
Now footy-Ghana.com understands that, Sudanese giants Al Hilal, after adding compatriots Kennedy Ashia and Abeiku Ainooson, are also interested in the services of Kofi Owusu.
Our multiple checks have confirmed that indeed the local journeyman is on the list of striker targets [which also has Nigeria’s Tunde Adeniji of Sunshine FC] of the Omdurman side but a deal is nowhere near completion yet.
While a Sudan source tells footyGhana that Owusu is one of a few strikers on the African scene being considered by Hilal, our sources on the other hand at Berekum Chelsea further corroborate the news that the club has received a sort of contact via an intermediary.
“Yes, there have been several inquiries about Kofi Owusu which we cannot divulge but in speaking to the issue of Hilal, I can only confirm that an agent contacted us about a deal from the club but that’s how it remains. There has not been any official communication between us yet,” the footy-Ghana.com source divulged.
Kofi Owusu has a wealth of experience on the local scene having previously featured for Liberty Professionals, Okwahu United, Mighty Jets, King Faisal, Aduana Stars before ending up at Berekum Chelsea last season.
