Black Stars skipper Asamoah Gyan has completed a shock return to the United Arab Emirates with champions Al Ahli.
Gyan, after a botched move to English championship side Reading FC, successfully completed his medical with the sworn rivals of former club Al Ain on transfer deadline Wednesday.
The 30-year-old has returned to the UAE, on a one-year loan deal, just 12 months after signing from Chinese Super League outfit Shanghai SIPG.
The ex-Sunderland forward replaces Moussa Sow, who has rejoined Turkish side Fenerbahce.
Speaking after completing his loan move a delighted Gyan said he is “now back home.”
“It’s a new challenge for me. Al Ahli is also a big club with good fans…
“I hope everything will be fine. I’m here to start a new challenge. They know what I can do but I don’t dwell in the past now.
“I’m looking forward to start work, do well for the club and make sure that the league is exciting as everybody wants,” Gyan stated.
Gyan reunites with former coach Cosmin Olaroiu under whom he enjoyed majority of his successful spell at Al Ain. He scored 128 goals in 123 matches during a trophy-laden four-year spell with the Garden City side.
