The 2015/2016 Ghana Premier League enters week 27 this weekend with all eight matches set for Sunday August 28.
The race for the title involves four clubs – Wa All Stars, Aduana Stars, Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko with four matches remaining. The relegation battle also has its spark being ignited every match day as the last 10 teams on the log are relegation threatened.
Players are being transferred to foreign clubs regardless of the crucial points the clubs need to amass from their remaining matches to survive or clinch the league title. Let’s have a look at the schedule for the weekend.
Inter Allies at the Tema Stadium will welcome New Edubiase as the bottom two clubs battle it out against each other at the Tema Stadium to kick off this weekend.
Bechem United will welcome Hearts of Oak to the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park. The Phobians after having a difficult 1-1 draw against struggling Inter Allies and an eye on the title need nothing less than a win to keep league winning hopes alive. The Eagles ride on an impressive 2-0 away victory over Dwarfs last weekend which serve as a boost to claiming all three points at home.
Ashantigold, at the Len Clay Stadium, will play hosts to Sekondi Hasaacas. Having lost 2-0 away to Aduana Stars on Week 26 amidst officiating complains, the Miners are hopeful of claiming maximum points against the third team from the league table’s base.
Elsewhere, Techiman City at the Den will square off against Liberty Professionals. The Citizens who have lost successive points in two games need a victory at home to push them away from a possible relegation. They lie 13th, a rung lower than their opponents Liberty. The scientific soccer lads however have seen a decline in results after witnessing impressive results from the start of the second round, ought to save their Premier League status.
At the Cape Coast Robert Mensah Stadium, Ebusua Dwarfs will welcome Medeama as their guests. The Crabs after a mysterious run of unbeaten matches were silenced 2-0 by Bechem United at home and would want to reclaim their indomitable cliché. The Yellow and Mauves after crushing out of the CAF Confederations Cup will need a good result to wipe out the tears of their supporters for their semifinal failure.
The Red Bull Arena at Sogakope will witness second placed Aduana having WAFA as their hosts. The Academy boys with a good home record and coming from a 0-0 draw at Liberty should be tough customers for Aduana. The away side who are just a point adrift of leaders All Stars, will need to clinch at least a point to be in line of claiming their second league title.
Fourth-placed Asante Kotoko still with hopes of annexing the league title but four points less than leaders All Stars will play host to Berekum Chelsea. The Porcupines having struggled to win at home with draws in games against Hearts, Bechem and recently Aduana need to be sharp and ruthless in attack at home to stay in the title race at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Finally at the Malik Jabir Park in Wa, Dreams FC face a trip to play All Stars. The Premier League debutants desperately wanting a top four finish hope to at least snatch a point to keep their hopes of displacing 4th-placed Asante Kotoko. Leaders All Stars, after being smeared in match fixing allegations after their 1-0 triumph at Edubiase will take no chances at home. The Northern Blues have made clear their intentions of winning the league and anything less than a victory will endanger their biggest ever silver wear chances.
