The champions of the 2015/16 Ghana Premier League are bound to take home US $30,000 as prize money.
This was revealed by Ashford Tettey Oku, the Premier League Board Chairman following weeks of consultations with the Ghana Football Association.
This season’s Premier League is currently sponsor less following the decision of First Capital Plus Bank (now Capital Bank) to suspend its contract with the Ghana FA. And according to the PLB boss, the country’s football governing body has decided to release money from her coffers to reward the eventual league champions.
“We made a proposal to the GFA and they have approved that the champions for the 2016 Ghana Premier League will take home $30.000.”
“I think this is very marvelous, wonderful and the FA must be commended. Last year, the champions club (Ashgold) won GHC 50,000 when there was even a headline sponsor.
“But in the absence of a headline sponsor this season, the FA is prepared to pay 30,000 US dollars,” said Tettey Oku.
Ashantigold SC, last season were awarded GH ₵50,000 (about $13,000) for emerging champions of the Ghana Premier League.
