The Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) is set to organise a ‘Top4’ preseason tournament for Division One clubs.
The new tournament is to be played by four clubs during the preseason and serve as a supplementary tournament to the G-6 for the Premier League clubs.
The welfare body of Ghana’s league clubs designed the tournament to welcome and also prepare the three clubs who gain promotion into the Ghana Premier League from Division One. There will be four participating clubs which involves the champions of each of the three zones in the Division One in its maiden edition.
The competitors are Elmina Sharks FC and Great Olympics FC who have gained qualification to Ghana’s elite division after topping zones 2 and 3. The other two clubs to complete the numbers are the best second placed team and the yet to be decided champion from Zone One.
“We have decided to bring Division One clubs on board so we would be having two competitions this offseason. That would hinge on the GFA giving us approval but there is no difference between GHALCA and the GFA so definitely, we would be getting the approval,” Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association told GHOne TV in an interview.
We would be having two competitions. We want to know who is who so we will be bringing the three Division One Zonal winners together, then we will ask the Division One League (DOL) Board to give us the second best from the groups,” he explained.
The launch of the new tournament is slated for 30th October, 2016 together with the launch of the G-6 tournament.
