Referee Nathan Anaafo

‘Get rid of “robber” referee Nathan Anaafo’ – Dreams FC charge [+VIDEO]

The Administrative Manager for Dreams FC, Ameenu Shardow has descended heavily on referee Nathan Anaafo for his performance in their match day 23 game against Kotoko on Sunday.

The game was heading for a deadlock till the 85th minute when the centre referee whistled for a penalty after winger Emmanuel Gyamfi took a heavy fall in the penalty area – a decision which drew serious reactions from players and officials of the visiting team.

Kotoko captain Amos Frimpong however elected himself to ensure Kotoko got a goal and a much needed win at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Speaking to a section of the media after the match, a furious Shardow labelled referee Nathan Anaafo an armed robber.

“The referee was an armed robber today and he’s the cause of all these things [confusion].

“…if we want to say the truth and be honest with ourselves, how else can you describe this referee than being an armed robber?”

“…I think he’s a murderer, because he’s playing with people’s heart, people have invested money to prepare their teams very well for games, they come they play good football and you one man single-handedly, you take such a dubious decision,” he added.

On the reaction from Dreams FC’s officials and players after the decision, Shardow who previously worked as a Sports journalist admitted “it is not acceptable” but added “the same way the referee shouldn’t take such decisions. Look at the number of cards he issued in the game. It destroys the game of football.”

Ameenu Shardow believes the only way to ensure the game growing in the country is when “some of these referees are gotten rid of.”

“Look, we came here to play very good football. We came here, we respected our hosts Kotoko because they are a big club. They play very well but the referee and I’m sure Kotoko officials will bear me witness that the referee on the day wasn’t, I won’t say poor, because it was very deliberate. Right from the 70th minute, he was looking for such an opportunity and you take such a dubious decision. I think if we are to do Ghana football well in this country, if we are to take Ghana football very serious, if we are to see Ghana football rise to the best leagues in the world and even in Africa, such characters like this referee should be gotten rid of immediately”.

Dreams FC currently lie 5th on the league log and will next host defending champions AshantiGold at the Dawu ‘Theatre of Dreams’ Park.
