Ex-Italy striker Fabrizio Ravanelli lobbies for Black Stars job

Former Italy striker Fabrizio Ravanelli appears interested in the vacant Black Stars head coach job.

This has been revealed by renowned journalist Tancredi Palmeri who has gone on to claim talks have been initiated with the Ghana Football Association.

The respected Italian journalist posted on twitter just a day after the Ghana FA announced it has begun the search for Avram Grant’s successor:

Nicknamed the White Feather, Ravanelli has limited coaching experience as his close-to-major managerial job was with French side AC Ajaccio where he lasted only five months.

The 48-year-old is a former Champions League winner with Italian giants Juventus. He left the Old Ladies after scoring in the 1996 finals against Ajax and signed for English Premier League side Middlesbrough that summer.

In late January this year, Ravanelli, who has done punditry work for English media giants Sky Sports, spoke of his desire to return to the club where he ditched after suffering relegation in the season of his arrival as a manager.

“I am just looking at different situations. It’s my dream to go back to Middlesbrough one day as their manager,” he said.

Sacked after 5 months

After hanging his boots, Ravanelli began his coaching career with the Juventus youth team. He joined the club’s coaching staff in July 2011 and remained there until summer 2013 when he took up at the job as head coach of AC Ajaccio.

Five months into the job, he got fired after winning once in 12 games in the French Ligue 1 (1 win, 4 draws and 7 defeats).

“I was unlucky because it was not very well organised and not very professional.

“That made it very difficult. Corsica is a very difficult city and there were many problems. It was impossible to work there.

“After that experience, I need to be more careful with my next move. Before I sign the contract I need to know everything about the club and the players…,” Ravanelli said in parts of his interview with Sky Sports.
