Addo urges Black Queens to focus on Tunisia clash

Ghana and Ferencváros midfielder Elizabeth Addo has asked her team-mates at the Black Queens camp preparing for the African Women’s Championship qualifier against Tunisia to concentrate on the game despite their unpaid bonuses.

Reports were rife prior to the team’s departure to Tunis on Friday afternoon that the Black Queens had threatened to boycott the match which comes off on Wednesday due to their over $12,000  outstanding bonuses. The report further claimed the ladies were also buying their own football boots and other materials.

But Addo speaking to Kumasi-based Bohye FM from her base in Hungary urged her colleagues to focus on the game as it would be very painful if they are eliminated from the qualifiers.

‘’In fact, it’s very bad that those bonuses have still not being paid, but I want to tell my friends to concentrate on the game rather than other issues. I know that if government owes you the probability that you’ll get the money is high.

‘’It will be painful if they’re kicked out of the qualifiers because I know it’s always good to be at a tournament,’’ Addo stated

She also appealed to the hierarchy of the Ghana Football Association to pay regular visits to the team’s camp.

‘’They visit us but it’s not regular. We want them to be around whenever we are in camp. It’s a source of motivation to the players.’’

The Black Queens play guests to their counterparts from Tunisia in the first leg of the second round of the qualifiers to the African Women Nations Cup slated for Cameroon later this year.
