On Friday, veteran Ghana midfielder Sulley Muntari began training with Spanish side Deportivo La Coruna after accepting a trial offer from new coach Clarence Seedorf.
Deportivo first want to evaluate the 33-year-old midfielder’s physical condition before making any decision on a contract.
Muntari has been available on a free transfer since last summer when his contract with then Serie A side Pescara run out. He hasn’t played since the time.
After arriving late in the night on Thursday, the tough-tackling Muntari moved into gear hours later beginning his trial. It is expected that he will earn an initial short-term deal until the end of the season.
Should he succeed, Muntari will be hoping to guide the La Liga strugglers out of danger before the end of the season.
New boss Seedorf will be hoping tough-tackling Muntari can offer some stability in midfield with his side having the worst defensive record in the league. Stranded in a relegation scrap, Deportivo La Coruna sit third from bottom on 17 points.
