#OlyInjunction: Hearing adjourned until February 21

An Accra High Court hearing pertaining to an injunction by Great Olympics against the start of the 2017/18 Ghana Premier League and related activities has been adjourned until Wednesday February 21

On Monday February 5, an aggrieved Great Olympics filed for an injunction to halt preparations towards the start of the new top flight season over unresolved boardroom issues they believed could ensure their Premiership status.

Olympics placed 15th last season and thereby suffered relegation to the Division One League. But the club had two outstanding cases at the Appeals Committee of the Ghana FA against Elmina Sharks and Bechem United.

Both cases, which had been thrown out by the Disciplinary Committee, bordered on player eligibility for some specific games last season.

Olympics maintained they had a case and appealed but the GFA appeared to have ignored them and went ahead with plans for the new Ghana Premier League season.

The Accra-based club initially sent a remainder to the Ghana FA after it published its calendar for the next three seasons, telling the football governing body, the continuous refusal to conclusively resolve their case could force a court action.

Last week, the GFA and PLB were on course to launch the 2017/18 Ghana Premier League and its new logo without Olympics when they were served an injunction letter by a bailiff.

That forced the postponement of the program, the 24th Ordinary Congress and other activities relating to the new season until the injunction hearing is held.

Both Great Olympics and the Ghana FA filed an appearance for a hearing at the Accra High Court Tuesday morning but the trial judge, Justice Anthony Yeboah adjourned the case to next week Wednesday following a request by the complainant.

“Olympics wanted time to look at the papers we had submitted,” counsel for the Ghana Football Association, Thaddeus Sory briefly explained the reason for the adjournment.

This means the start of the 2017/18 Ghana Premier League has been delayed further. February 10 was the original commencement date.
