Emmanuel Osei Baffour left AshantiGold for Karela United.
And the Miners chief, Kudjoe Fianoo has revealed the club were left powerless to hold on to the playmaker whose contract was expiring.
According to him, Osei Baffour sounded homesick and bent on a return to the Western Region where he hails from.
Osei Baffour, who was instrumental in the Obiasi-based club’s league title triumph three seasons ago, was recently reported to have signed for newly promoted Karela United. The side based in Nzema Aiyinase in the Elembelle District of the Western Region qualified for next season’s topflight from Zone Two of the Ghana Division One League.
“Osei Baffour made us understand that Karela, a team from Western Region want to sign him so he must be allowed to go. Since he was adamant, we let him go. We can’t stop him, that’s his profession,” Fianoo told Kumasi-based Nhyira FM.
The AshGold CEO also stated that player exits at a club are inevitable but was concerned about how some turn out.
Fianoo said: “Even Neymar left Barcelona. How many times have players not left and wanted to come back?
“One thing which worries me about players is that, when one team nurtures them to a certain level, they turn around to demand to leave once they are approached by teams from their hometowns.”
