Baba Rahman: Conte ready to give Ghana defender a chance

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte says he will be happy to hand recovering Ghana defender Baba Abdul Rahman a chance in his team.

The Italian however says the left-back has to come back stronger from the injury which has kept him out since the beginning of the year.

Baba suffered an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury on international duty with the Ghana national team at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.

Baba signed for Chelsea from Augsburg in summer 2015 but never really impressed at Stamford Bridge, so he was sent on loan to Schalke 04, but he picked up the bad knee injury.

Almost one year has gone by since he got injured, but Baba is not fully recovered yet: the 23-year-old is trying to re-get his fitness at Cobham Training ground, so Antonio Conte has got the chance to supervise his work day by day and confessed he would like to give him one more chance:

“This player is coming from a bad injury, he’s struggling a bit to recover his best form,” Conte responded to a question on Baba Rahman at Friday’s media briefing.

He continued: “I don’t know what will happen with Baba. From the human viewpoint, I would like to give an opportunity to come back stronger.

“But I think now he has to face the recovery. He’s showing great patience because he’s struggling a lot, I would be happy to give him a chance, because there is not just the player, there is also the human aspect.”

”If I can help him, I’m ready to,” he added.

Baba Rahman is reported to have received loan offers from Everton, Fiorentina and Fenerbahce while Schalke 04 are also showing interest in taking him back.
