Ghana international Thomas Partey scored an injury-time goal to earn Atletico Madrid a dramatic 1-0 victory at Deportivo La Coruna on Saturday.
With just a win in their last eight games in all competitions, Diego Simeone’s side travelled to the Estadio Riazor in desperate need of a victory to resurrect their flailing campaign.
But a dogged defensive display from Deportivo exposed Atleti’s early-season shortcomings once more.
That was, however, until Partey produced a moment of sheer brilliance to snatch victory when the spoils looked certain to be shared.
The midfielder left it late but when he had the chance to make his mark in added time, he made no mistake in finding the top corner with a side-footed shot after Gabi Fernandez rolled a free-kick into his path.
The international break is next but Thomas Partey gets to rest as he has been ruled out of Ghana’s last game at home to Egypt in the qualifiers to the 2018 World Cup due to card accumulation.
