Ghana vs Egypt: Atsu and Gyan ruled out, Twumasi doubtful

Injuries are nagging the Ghana squad ahead of their upcoming final World Cup qualifier against Egypt.

Newcastle United’s Christian Atsu (thigh muscle tear) and  team captain Asamoah Gyan (thigh strain) will not be fit to feature for the Black Stars while a third player, Patrick Twumasi is the latest to emerge a doubt for Sunday.

Atsu missed Tuesday’s training session and was forced to withdraw from Wednesday’s workout as concern over his reported thigh strain increased.

Gyan also withdrew from Wednesday’s training with a suspected thigh problem.

Further frustration for coach Kwasi Appiah is the knock picked up by Astana attacker Twumasi in Thursday’s warmup friendly against Glow-lamp Academy.

The Ghana-Egypt game at Cape Coast fits for an academic exercise as the Pharaohs have already won the slot reserved for Group E in the African qualifiers. The will be at the Russia finals, their first since Italy 1990.
