Aduana Stars have taken a significant step towards being crowned champions of the 2016/17 Ghana Premier League after beating main title contenders WAFA SC 1-0 on matchday 27.
The encounter at the Nana Agyemang Badu Park on Wednesday was cagey as expected.
Aduana enjoyed a slight edge over the visitors but failed to take their chances in the first half.
The deadlock was however broken 10 minutes into second half. And it was the hardworking Derrick Sasraku who got to the end of a corner kick – he rose quicker than his lanky marker Caleb Amankwah to head home what turned out the only goal of the match.
WAFA chased for the equalizer with Obeng Ampem the tormentor-in-chief but the Academy boys could not find a goal.
The victory consolidates Aduana’s kead at the top of the table – they are now four points better than WAFA who are on 47.
Two mire wins out of the three remaining games will see the league title return to Dormaa for the first time in eight years
Aduana Stars won their maiden Ghana Premier League title in their debut season in 2009.
