GHPL: Liberty beat the drop, deny Kotoko ‘Top 4’ place

Liberty Professionals needed a second-half turnaround against Asante Kotoko to maintain their premiership status on the final day of the 2016/17 Ghana Premier League.

The Porcupine Warriors took the lead in the 36th minute through Baba Mahama who made good use of a Kwame Boahen pass for the opener.

But Liberty improved their play in the second half. Striker Bernard Arthur won a penalty for the side but ended up failing to score with a big boot over the bar.

Skipper and defender Samuel Sarfo then led by example as Liberty scored twice in six minutes to turn the tide in their favour.

Sarfo scored leveled the scores in the 78th minute before teammate Samuel Anning hit the back of the net in the 84th minute – 2-1 for Liberty.

The Scientific Soccer lads managed to keep the scores till the final whistle, a win which places them 11th on the log at the end of the campaign.

For Kotoko, the defeat also meant they fall out of the prestigious Top 4 placings after Ebusua Dwarfs traveled to thrash bottom-placed Bolga All Stars 4-1 at the Utrecht Park.
